Man injured in shootout with police during response to earlier shooting: CFD – NBC Chicago

According to the Chicago Fire Department, a man was injured in a shootout with Chicago police in the city’s West Ridge neighborhood Saturday morning that occurred as officers responded to an earlier shooting.

Officials said firefighters responded to the 2700 block of West Farwell Avenue shortly after 9:30 a.m. for a previous shooting that left a 39-year-old man injured.

As police and firefighters responded to the area, a shootout occurred between the possible suspect in the previous shooting and emergency responders in the 6800 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, where the suspect was struck, officials said.

The man injured in the first shooting was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where his condition was reported as serious.

It is unknown if the officer involved in the shooting was injured.
