“It will be our best yet”

Get ready, Pogues, because the treasure hunt will finally be over.

Outer Banks has been renewed for season 5, which will officially be the final season. Netflix announced the news on Monday, just days before the premiere of Season 4, Part 2 on Thursday.

Co-creators and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke released a joint statement reflecting on the last seven years of production on the fan-favorite series about best friends John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline) and , Kiara (Madison Bailey), JJ (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) and they also promised that the final season would be their best yet.

“In the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on the beach at dusk during a power outage. “From this photo came the idea for a story about four best friends who just want to have a good time,” she says. “From the beginning, we envisioned a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting and friendship.”

They add that at the time it “seemed impossible that we could really tell the entire story of the five seasons, but here we are, at the end of our fourth season, still getting to work. Season 4 was our longest and hardest.” – but most rewarding – the season ends with a feature-length episode that we believe is our best and most powerful episode. We hope you feel the same way.

The fifth and final season is currently being written, with details to be announced at a later date.

After the first season debuted in April 2020, Jonas said Weekly entertainment that they “always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season show, maybe a five-season show, but definitely four seasons.”

“We’ve come pretty far,” the showrunner said at the time. “I just hope we get the chance to actually tell these stories.”

But before the third season premiered, his twin brother Josh revealed that they had thrown away their (treasure) map and were no longer sticking to their original plan of only letting it run for four or five seasons. After joking that he wanted to see the series run for 17 seasons, he then got serious: “I don’t know if I can really put a number on it right now – how long it takes to get to that end could be expanding .” But we now know the end of the story. We will definitely take it as long as possible.

It looks like they’ve gotten back on track since then.

Outer Banks Season 4, Part 2 premieres on Netflix on Thursday, November 7th.
