Princess of Wales attends commemoration events

The Princess of Wales will attend memorial events in London over the weekend, Buckingham Palace said.

She will attend both the Sunday service at the Cenotaph and the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday evening.

After her cancer treatment, the princess gradually returned to her royal duties.

The queen’s presence will be subject to medical advice at a later date, the palace added. She wasn’t feeling well, she had a chest infection and pulled out of his engagements earlier this week.

This represents further progress in Catherine’s recovery following her cancer diagnosis after what the Prince of Wales described the past year as “hardest year” of his life after both his wife and father were diagnosed with cancer.

“I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father for coping with the things they did,” he told reporters at the end of his visit to South Africa.

“But from a personal family perspective, it was brutal.”

Buckingham Palace announced in February that the king had cancer and would begin treatment.

Just six weeks later, it was announced that the Princess of Wales would be undergoing chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis.

The King has now returned to his public duties and Catherine has completed her chemotherapy treatment.

In a video posted in September, the princess said she had completed treatment and was looking forward to “getting back to work and taking on a few more public engagements in the coming months.”

Commemorative events have been cited as an example of when she might make a public appearance – and it will be the first time Catherine has held public official engagements on two consecutive days since the start of the year.

She had already made some tentative returns, starting with her first public appearance after her cancer diagnosis at the annual Trooping the Color Parade in June.

In September, she attended her first official work meeting since her treatment.

In October, Catherine visited Southport with the Prince of Wales – where they met the families of three children killed in a knife attack in the city.

Taking part in the commemorative events, which mark such a big date in the royal calendar, is seen as another important milestone in her return to public life.

Queen Camilla still appears not to have fully recovered from a chest infection that has kept her away from engagements this week, although there is no cause for alarm.

Earlier this week, the palace said it hoped she was well enough to attend memorial events over the weekend.

The king, who is still undergoing treatment for cancer, will lead the wreath-laying ceremony at the cenotaph service on Sunday.
