My Chemical Romance is making history in New Jersey with a huge concert announcement

New Jersey emo-punk heroes My Chemical Romance announced Tuesday that they will play MetLife Stadium next summer, soon turning the Meadowlands into a sea of black nail polish and heavy eyeliner.

The Aug. 9 date — part of a summer “Long Live the Black Parade” stadium tour and easily the Belleville and Kearny-based band’s biggest show ever in their home state — makes My Chemical Romance only the third band from New Jersey to do so New Jersey plays Jersey’s biggest venue (after Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi). They also made history as the first Garden State group formed in the 21st century to play MetLife.

Their fan-acclaimed 2006 album “The Black Parade,” which they debuted in a Woodbridge parking lot outside the vintage vinyl record store, will be performed in full, among other hits. Indie-rock darlings Death Cab for Cutie and other Jersey emo artists will open the show on Thursday.
