John Macarthur, influential pastor and author, dies at 86

John Macarthur, pastor of the Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, died on Monday at the age of 86 after a fight against pneumonia.

“Our hearts are heavy, but we are happy because we share the news that our beloved pastor and teacher John Macarthur joined the presence of the rescuer,” read a post-night post on the X report from “Grace to You”, the Macarthur Medical Ministry. “This evening his belief became his eyes. He stood loyal until his race was run.”

After the Associate Pastor Tom Patton, the announcement was made at a Sunday service on July 13 that Macarthur had been hospitalized with the illness, according to Roys report.

“This week Pastor John completed pneumonia,” said Patton before during the service. “He was hospitalized and can soon be in the presence of the Lord.”

MacArthur started his work in the Grace Community Church after the Talbot Theological Seminary ended in 1969, according to the church's website. During his time in the leadership, the two morning services of the church reported the auditorium with 3,500 seats in capacity.

In 1985 Macarthur became President of Master's University, a four -year -old accredited Christian college for free arts in Santa Clarita. A year later, he founded the Master's Seminary, a graduate school that specialized in preparing men for full-time pastoral roles and mission work, according to the Grace Community Church.

Macarthur was also president and showed teachers with Grace to her, a non -profit organization that specializes in the development and distribution of his audio recordings, books and the “Grace -to You” television and radio stations.

In addition, Macarthur wrote almost 400 books and study resources, including The gospel according to Jesus And Our adaptation in ChristAccording to the church's website, its titles are translated into over two dozen languages.

The pastor previously made national headlines in 2020 after a California judge decided that the church could continue to hold personal services despite the nationwide coronavirus restrictions by Gaverneur Gavin Newsom.

Macarthur had suffered from years of health complications, including a sudden occurrence of diseases, while preaching in a 2023 service. Since then, he has reported several operations on atrial fibrillation and other diseases.

According to reports, however, his health continued, and Patton told the members of the community that the recovery of the pastor of “three operations in the second half of 2024 was” “slower than expected” and “occasional setbacks that influenced his heart, lungs and kidneys”.

At the beginning of this year, Macarthur was taken to the hospital in the lungs during a “second intervention”, the outlet reported.

Macarthur is survived by his wife Patricia, four children and fifteen grandchildren.
