Strong earthquake shakes Panama's Pacific coast, no damage reported

A strong earthquake today pushed in front of Panama's Pacific coast and faggled in the region, but did not cause any reported injuries or destruction. Seismologists found the size to 6.2, although some early reports listened to 6.6 higher.

The tremor scored at 11:53 a.m. local time or 4:53 p.m. GMT with the epicenter in the sea about 206 kilometers south of Punta Burica, near the border between Costa Rica. According to the US Geological Survey, it was at a small depth of 10 kilometers. Other surveillance groups such as Vulcano Discovery found a similar point 124 kilometers southeast of Burica.

Omar Smith, Head of Panama's national civil protection system, found that no tsunami warnings were assumed. “We continue to monitor all over the country,” he said. Officials confirmed the lack of warnings and ongoing checks. People felt the shaking in parts of Panama and reported from the nearby Colombia, where the Colombian geological service registered him as 6.6. In Costa Rica, people also felt near the border, but there was no damage.

Panamaic media such as Telemetro mentioned at around the same time a related 5.9 quake southwest of Isla Coiba, possibly a wicker. US outlets repeated the 6.2 reading and calm consequences. This event follows a pattern of seismic activity in the area that is driven by plate movements. Former quakes in March met similar places south of Panama, even without major problems. The authorities advise the residents to prepare for aftershocks.

During the reviews, the focus on safety in this active zone remains. No evacuations happened, and daily life quickly increased.
