The southwestern Island volcano breaks out and the evacuation of the city and the geothermal spa

London – A volcanic outbreak in southwestern Iceland has again forced the evacuation of tourists in the internationally known Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa, reported the national broadcaster RUV.

The outbreak began at 4 a.m. after an intensive seismic swarm on the Reykjanes peninsula, southwest of the capital, Reykjavik, said Iceland's Met Office.

A campsite in the city of Grindavik was evacuated shortly after the beginning of seismic activity. The guests of the Blue Lagoon were forced to pack their bags quickly, Ruv reported.

Lava from the eruption flows from a gap in the barren landscape, which is 700 to 1,000 meters wide, from a split in the barren landscape, but the melted rock is not threatened with an infrastructure, said the Met Office.

Grindavik has been repeatedly affected by the activity since November 2023 when a volcano in the area came alive after running calmly for about 800 years. But the authorities said on Wednesday that it was not in danger.
