3 things to observe how Mets start the second half of 2025

With all the hurdles and youngest valleys with whom the METS had to fight, they are about the second half of their season and do only half a game in the National League East (55-42) behind the Philadelphia Phillies.

Exciting that the dominance at the division is a neck neck race in the rest of the way, although a number of hypothetics could help the meters to snap the upper hand to win a first NL east title in a decade.

Here you can see three things how we come from the all-star break.

Double aces on the curve

New York Rotation was decimated throughout the season by injuries. Sean Manaea, Frankie Montas and Paul Blackburn started the year on the IL. Griffin Canning is out with a broken Achilles for the rest of 2025, Tylor Megill is sufficient, and Kodai Senga missed a month with a knee tendon load.

But in the very last series before the break, the Mets got both Manaea (his debut 2025) and Senga back what New York gives the five-man unit that she had put up in the low season, but had never all had together: Senga, Manaea, Montas, Clay Holmes and David Peterson.

The return of Senga-Er was brilliant with a 7: 3 record and 1.47 ERA and Manaea should stabilize a rotation that was the best baseball for the first two and a half months of the season, but has achieved an ERA of 5.31 ERA in the past four weeks. Holmes' transition from closer to starter could not run much better, and Peterson collected his first all-star game this year.

Things could be in a much worse condition, all in all.

Pitching at the closing time

However, David Stearn's' Mo of Baseball operations is the depth, and the entire pitching picture in New York is missing with two weeks until the trading period.

Another starter could be brought in as an insurance policy if the METS injuries follow them in the second half, but it feels far more important to make a deal to strengthen the bullpen.

The aids before narrow Edwin Diaz did not inspire much confidence, especially with left-hand options that were demolished by injuries at the beginning of this season. Within a week, she lost both AJ Minter and Danny Young for the season and forced manager Carlos Mendoza in the past two months to navigate in an ineffective carousel of southern paws.

Brooks Raley is expected to return from the Tommy John operation this month to achieve a boost.

The right side doesn't look much better. Huascar Brazoban, Ryne Stanek and Reed Garrett were inconsistent, and Dedniel Nunez next to Max Kranick are on the shelf, as this may be the rest of the year. A lockdown set-up man may have to be the priority of Stearns if the use increases.

What about the children?

This should be the year in which some of the younger Mets provided the necessary depth to create a rounded list. Instead, there were regressions and battles in abundance.

The catcher Francisco Alvarez lost his starting job to Luis Torrens and was chosen for Triple-A after beating 0.236 with three home runs in the first half. Mark Viientos has withdrawn a lot – the third Baseman, who hit 27 Homeruns last year, only has six out of 254 record appearances.

Luisangel Acuna was sent down after Ronny Mauricio had returned from his long rehabilitation in front of two winters, and Brett Baty still shows flashes of one of the top prospects of the Mets instead of holding it together consistently.

In a perfect world, one of Acuna or Mauricio – both natural infields – had now been given repetitions in midfield to facilitate the strain of Tyrone Taylor, who took on everyday duties after Jose Siri broke his leg. Instead, Taylor and occasional relief appearances by Jeff McNeil mean that the Mets will receive a poor .614 ops this season from Center Field.

Another bat could be required at the deadline to strengthen the floor of the line -up, which has recently been transformed into a black hole.
