Sources – Oakmont excludes Wyndham Clark to damage the locker

The Oakmont Country Club banned the golfer Wyndham Clark from its property, after damaging his locker after a missed cut at US Open last month, confirmed sources on Wednesday.

In a letter to the members of this week, the President of the Oakmont Country Club, John Lynch, said his decision after several discussions with the United States Golf Association and the Club Board.

According to Lynch's letter, the ban could be lifted if Clark, 31, paid for damage, provides a “meaningful contribution” to a charity selected by the Oakmont Country Club Board and undergo advisory and/or rage management therapy.

The Oakmont Country Club, which is about 15 miles outside of Pittsburgh, is to organize the US Open again in 2033.

“Some of them asked Wyndham Clark and the steps in response to his most recent behavior,” wrote Lynch in the letter. “After several discussions with the USGA and the OCC board, a decision was made that Mr. Clark is no longer permitted in OCC ownership.

“This decision remains in force, unless it is officially checked and approved by the board.”

The content of Lynch's letter was first reported by Golf Digest on Wednesday. ESPN confirmed that the letter was sent to members of the Oakmont Country Club.

Clark, the winner of 2023 US Open in the Los Angeles Country Club, made a bogey in the last hole in the second round to miss the cut at this year's US Open. He apologized for his behavior in the following week at the Traveller Championship.

“I had a lot of heights and depths in my career, especially this year a few depths,” Clark told reporters at the Travelers Championship. “I made a mistake that I deeply regret. I am very sorry for what happened. But I would also like to continue, not only for myself, but for Oakmont, for the USGA and a kind of focus on the rest of the year and the things that appear.”

At the PGA championship in May, Clark threw his driver and damaged a sign near the tea box, in which one of his most famous sponsors contained.

“As a professional, we are expected to remain professional even in frustrated frustration, and I unfortunately let my feelings get the best of me,” said Clark in a explanation after the PGA championship. “My actions were inappropriate and completely inappropriate, which made it clear that I have things that I have to work on.

“I promise to do better how I deal with my frustrations on the course into the future and hope that they can all be allocated in due course.”

Clark got 28th place in the OPEN Championship this week in Portrush, Northern Ireland. He has a top 10 place in 19 starts on tour this season.
