A power failure in Durham, which affects hundreds of customers on Wednesday morning, triggered power at a busy intersection.

At 6:30 a.m., Duke Energy's failure card showed 385 customers without electricity in the areas of NC Highway 55, South Alston Avenue, South Briggs Avenue and the Riddle Road. The failure had previously improved from almost 1,000 customers in the morning.

Traffic lights did not work on the intersection NC 55 and Riddle Road, which led to a dangerous situation for cars that race across the street without stopping. Other intersections in the region can also be without electricity.

The drivers should treat a four-way crossing without working the traffic lights like a four-way stop.

A Kreis -K petrol station in the area was also without electricity.

Utility crews announced Wral News that the damage was due to a broken power pole. The Duke Energy website listed an estimated restoration time from 9:45 a.m.
