MDC is looking for a volunteer for the stream team program in Southeast Missouri – Daily Journal Online

Follow the efforts to protect and preserve the streams of Missouris.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) asks Missourians to get their feet wet – literally – and to join the Missouri Stream Team program.

With more than 120,000 volunteers since it started, the program continues to thrive thanks to the people who are very interested in clean water, healthy habitats and the natural beauty of Missouris streams.

“Regardless of whether you are passionate about environmental sciences, relaxation outdoors or non -profit services, to become a volunteer of stream team, is a worthwhile and effective opportunity to make a difference,” said Angela Pierce, MDC Cape Girardeau Conservation Naturalist. “Volunteers monitor water quality, planted stream trees, remove garbage and inform others about the importance of protecting our water ecosystems.”

She said flows “are the elixir of life of the natural environment of Missouris.”

“Every bottle, every data point collected, and every conversation about stream stewardship has the long -term health of our rivers and streams,” said Pierce. “We just couldn't do it without our volunteers.”

The Missouri Stream Team program is a cooperative effort between MDC, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Conservation Federation of Missouri. It offers free training courses, supplies and continuous support for individuals, families, classrooms and group groups.
