Questions and answers: Comedian Shane Gillis about the orientation of the espies after his best sporting year of all time

South Bend, Ind. – On Wednesday evening, Shane Gillis celebrates the biggest sports year of his life. He will also celebrate the year in sports for everyone else while organizing the espies in the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles (ESPN, 8 p.m. ET).

From the lifting of the Lombardi Trophy at the Super Bowl -Abfter -Party of the Philadelphia Eagles to the up -to -up run from Notre Dame to the national championship game, he lived an almost perfect sports fan last autumn. In between he filmed season 2 from “Tires” on Netflix, was occupied in the Madden film and moderated “Saturday Night Live”. There is also its International Standup Comedy tour, which will stop at the Notre Dame Stadium on September 6th.

And they are likely to remember his Under Armor commercial for Notre Dame to win the national championship.

“I was surprised that Notre Dame allowed that,” said Gillis. “You modernize a little.”

The athlete I was with Gillis when he was preparing for the focus of the espies and the attending moments of the last football season.

Note: The conversation was processed out of clarity and length.

How much of the intro organizes the espies after this last football season, will only be Notre Dame and Philadelphia Eagles -Highlights?

If I have a control over it, it would be great. If I can choose the highlights, it is just Eagles, Notre Dame, including some Phillies. That would be nice.

If you know the teams that you follow as a sports fan, was this the biggest sport year of your life last year?

It was definitely the best thing I've ever had, but it could have been the greatest ever if there was only a few minutes in this game in Ohio State. I don't know if a few more minutes would have helped, but you know what I mean.

Why did you want to accept the espies and if you consider that you are an Eagles fan, would Patrick Mahomes and the chiefs be an easy sign in an opening monologue?

(Laughs) The reason why I wanted to accept it was MacDonald. He is the best of all time and he did it and his monologue was one of my favorites.

You talked about seeing Caitlin Clark on your shows or sitting with Steph Curry and Draymond Green Hof. When does it stop to be one thing when you see all these Starthletes at your events? You are the sports fan, but sometimes they are there to see you.

For some reason with athletes it doesn't disappear. I can meet a famous actor or a famous comedian, and I'm usually pretty relaxed. But then I will meet Michael Phelps on a plane and I like “Oh my god.” When I met Aaron Judge for the first time, I couldn't talk. I don't know why. I am strengthened on that. I didn't think that Caitlin Clark would be starstuck. I was what was pretty funny. Steph Curry, that was great.

So to be in a theater with everyone at the same time …

I will concentrate too much on my monologue to take care of it at this time, but maybe after the show I will think about how the show works. If it's bad, I'll get out of it. But that is another thing when you start to get to know these guys as soon as you start to get to know these boys, they feel less than a fan, as far as I will never sit around and be so that this type sucks, I hate this guy. Before that, I would say that because I didn't know anyone. Before the Steph Curry things, I thought I didn't like Steph Curry, he is a … then you meet him and you are like Holy S – Steph Curry is incredible. So there is a bit: “Will you make fun of this athlete?” Probably will make fun of someone who has devoted his life a little. I will not go up and say: 'You stink.'

Is there someone you haven't hit you want?

Tom Brady would be cool. I just met Charles Barkley. That was great. He was always one that I wanted to meet.

What about you the most about Notre Dame's season after grew up with Irish football in Pennsylvania?

The season was crazy. I brought my father and friends with me, and I was with Johnny Manziel together the game in Texas A & M. After the game, they said: “Trainer Freeman would like to go into the changing room.” So after the victory I was in the changing room and it was incredible. And then 2, Northern Illinois passed week ago, and I thought it was a program that was ended. I was like, it will be five years of the reconstruction. It was incredible all year round. But when the playoffs came, we turned season 2 of “tires”. So we only looked at the games there, which is really fun. We all had our friends to see the Georgia game. The Georgia game, how beautiful was that? This first defense series, oh my god, it's different, I am used to being killed in this game and they are faster. Then Penn was State, that was the greatest victory for me because I grew up in a central -Pennsylvania, where everyone's Notre Dame or Penn State. And you will never really play and all my friends are Penn State fans, that was particularly beautiful. Especially in the first half, she wrote me an SMS because there were a few of them in Miami and she spoke many s. Perfect. Perfect end.

What were the moments during the season of the Eagles who kept the most with you?

I was in the game when Saquon condemned this guy. I saw it live and that's the most incredible piece I've ever seen. I saw football all my life. I've never seen someone. This is crazy. He had so many really incredible moments. The Super Bowl was wonderful. You just killed the chiefs. At the beginning of the game, I remember that there was a terrible passport call. And I said, “Oh, that will happen again.” And then they took the referees out of the game. Not much what they could do.

When was sport your thing? I know that you played high school football, but that's different from the fandom that is bound to your identity.

I think that's how I grew up. So was my father. So all my friends are because all my friends play football. I just grew up. My father saw sports every day. And what else is there? I don't understand. We look at sports.
