Obamas jokes about rumors of divorce: “It was touch and went for a while”

Former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama speak rumors about a divorce in an episode of her podcast published on Wednesday.

“She brought me back!” Barack Obama said “Imo with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson” in the podcast. “It was touch and went for a while.”

The speculation about the marriage of the former first couple has been widespread in the past few months. Some of the rumors recorded steam after several public appearances, in which Michelle Obama did not come to her husband, including the inauguration of President Donald Trump in January.

“It is so nice to have both of them together in the same space,” said Robinson, Michelle Obama's brother, to the couple. Michelle replied: “I know because people, when we are not it, believe that we are divorced.”

Robinson told a story when a woman approached him at an airport to ask him about her marriage. “What did he do?” Said Robinson, she asked him.

“These are the things I just miss,” said Barack Obama. “So I don't even know that this stuff is going on and then someone will mention it and I am like what you talk about?”

Michelle Obama continued: “There was no moment in our marriage when I thought about stopping my husband. And we had some really difficult times and we had many funny times, many adventures and I have become a better person because I was married to the man.”

The former First Lady previously spoke to speculation about her marriage and her decision not to visit Trump's inauguration.

“My decision to skip the inauguration of what people do not recognize – or my decision to make decisions at the beginning of this year that were assigned to me was made with such ridiculousness and criticism,” she said in an episode of her podcast at the beginning of this year. “People couldn't believe that for any other reason I said no that they had to assume that my marriage fell apart.”

The Obamas married in 1992 and have two daughters, Malia and Sasha.

The former president, who was brought up by a single mother, announced why he believed that he had more difficulties to raise a son as a daughter.

“I think I might have been more valuable, harder,” he said. “I like to think I would have been more confident, enough to combat it, but I only think that father-son relationships for me especially for me if I don't have a father to show it, maybe more difficult.”

Both Obamas also reflected on how parents and communities had to concentrate on promoting young men and recognized the political change with this group. During the 2024 presidential election, Trump made himself with appeals to younger men, especially in younger men, although he was criticized since taking office in the podcast “manosphere”.

“If they don't think about what happens to boys and how they are raised, the women can actually hurt, and I would argue that some of the broad political trends that we have not only seen in this country, but around the world with this feeling of boys do not feel that men are not as if they are seen,” said Barack Obama.

He continued: “That interests you more in vocations of people who say:” You know what, the reason why you don't feel respected is that women have done so or did this group to do so. “And that's not a healthy place.”

“We rightly tried to invest in girls to ensure that there is a flat playing field, and then they are not excluded from opportunities,” he added. “But we weren't so ready to be intended to invest in the boys, and that was a mistake.”
