Charity organization emphasizes “hard treatment” of people who have overpaid advantages

A charity organization, which is set up by Martin Lewis, the consumer Martin Lewis, says that the approach to collecting advantages should be reformed urgently.

The Money and Mental Health Policy Institute said that some people are exposed to sudden and severe debt collection practices, which causes financial difficulties and stress for humans under endangered circumstances.

Advantages overpayment can take place if the department for work and pensions (DWP) pays more services such as universal loans than someone claims, possibly due to changes in the circumstances or a person's error.

The charity organization said that overpayments can accumulate for months without being known to the recipients, but the DWP can quickly pay the payment within a few weeks after identifying a problem.

It also added that the DWP can deduct 15% of the monthly general loan payment of a person if they were overpaid.

For an individual adult from the age of 25, 15% of a monthly universal loan is 60 GBP per month, which leads to a significant income shock for people with low incomes-the charity organization.

It contrasted the situation with commercial lenders who would go through the courts, a process that could take months to violently take money from the income of a person.

The charity organization said that some people may find that the benefit money is withdrawn from them alarming, with people receiving messages on their online accounts that say that they have been more than claimed in universal loan, and this is now withdrawn.

While people can call the government to try to negotiate an affordable plan, people may not understand this clearly from the news.

In the meantime, consumer believers such as banks, credit card companies, water companies and energy companies have to come into contact with people through the regulation, which owe money, money and mental health.

The charity organization that had researched the topic said that one person had said: “After my performance, I had made it difficult for me to make ends meet, and on a few days I didn't eat it because I couldn't afford what my mental health is leaving.”

It has also been emphasized that the DWP receives more powers on the law on the authorities (fraud, error and restoration) that is currently going on by the parliament.

In particular, the DWP should judge how many people can afford repayment, said the charity organization. It was suggested that the DWP, for example, reflect the approach of consumers when assessing income and essential expenses of a person and then give people a “real chance” to negotiate an affordable repayment plan.
