No clear timeline in Birmingham's fourteenth trash can collections

No clear timeline in Birmingham's fourteenth trash can collections

Weekly collections for food waste and a second recycling container, especially for paper and box, were introduced in phases throughout the city from April.

Mahmood said: “We are still obliged to transform our waste service. It wasn't too long enough and we have to improve it.

“We strive to create a modern, sustainable and consistently reliable waste removal service for all residents.”

However, he continued that the time of the changes had been influenced by the industrial dispute and would depend on “operational consideration”.

Last week the talks collapsed to solve the strike, and some drivers were endangered by mandatory redundancy.

Mahmood said the “first priority” was to keep the city clean and said that the council's emergency service had currently reached a single weekly collection of mixed waste for “most households”.

He also said that new waste vehicles, which were called “clean, greener and safer”, were already used by the Council.
