Rodrigo de Paul to borrow from Atlético to Miami

Rodrigo de Paul to borrow from Atlético to Miami

With Inter Miami from Atlético Madrid, Rodrigo de Paul will join a loan contract to make the move permanently, said sources ESPN.

The Argentina midfielder will arrive in MLS in a short-term contract, with the opportunity to conclude a multi-year contract with the club. The co -owner of Inter Miami, Jorge Mas, traveled to Madrid at the beginning of this month to initiate negotiations between the two parties.

The signing by de Paul is part of a larger vision of Inter Miami to expand the depth and quality of the club on and off the field.

The midfielder is leaving Atlético Madrid for another year, which makes him a free agent in June 2026.

De Paul will initially not be one of Miami's designated players, since the three places of the Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets team are kept. If a DP position is available at the end of its loan, Inter Miami can sign the player for a larger offer.

As far as Messi's future is concerned in Miami, sources previously announced that contract negotiations between him and the club have not yet been concluded, with both parties to continue the relationship in the field over 2025.

MAS announced ESPN in June that talks about the expansion of the Busquet's contract with Inter Miami had not started, but the door remains open to the player.

The news of de Paul's arrival comes after the participation of Inter Miami in the World Club Championship, where they took second place in the group stage before they lost in the 16th round against tournament second-placed Paris Saint-Germain.

The team has been back in action in MLS since the loss of the CWC and will take part in the Ligues Cup on July 30th.

De Paul was part of the Argentine team, who won the World Cup 2022 and the Copa América 2021 and 2024.

In July 2021 he moved to the Spanish capital from Side Udinese in Serie A in a deal of 35 million euros (40.6 million US dollars) and achieved 187 appearances during this period, scored 14 goals and assisted 26 times.
