Lionel Messi's goal strip ends with the defeat of Miami against Cincinnati

Lionel Messi's MLS record series to score two goals in one game ended at the age of five when Inter Miami lost 3-0 against FC Cincinnati on Wednesday evening.

On the other side of the ball, the all-star middle field player Evander of the home team held his own way and set up a cincinnati record by scoring in a fifth game in a row.

When the time for Cincinnati ran, MVP chants could hear from the stands at the TQL Stadium in Ohio, but they were for the hero of the club's hero, not for the winners of the World Cup and the Argentine legend Messi.

“Yes, I think we were clearly exceeded today,” said Miami coach Javier Mascherano after the game. “We have a lot to fight from the beginning of the game, especially in the individual encounters.

“Unfortunately we didn't play the game that we wanted from the start. They put us under pressure all the time. We fought, we weren't fresh, we couldn't be spicy, and the truth was, they beat us very well.”

Evander's left shot from the middle of the box found the lower right corner of the network to double Cincinnatis lead at the beginning of the second half after Gerardo Valenzuela used the hosts in the first half.

It was the first of two goals that Evander scored in the second half after he was empty in the first trial. The two goals have a total of 15 in the regular MLS season competition.

Miami's offensive fight-in combination with Cincinnatis outstanding back line also the end of the five-sided winning streak of the Herons when the Shield winners of the last year since May 18 received their first defeat of the regular season.

“Obviously I'm worried about losing,” added Mascherano. “I obviously worry when the opponent surpasses us, and today the opponent was exceeded from the start to finish.”

Before this game, Messi had scored two goals in each of his last five games for Miami, a record for MLS.

Cincinnati, which is now in second place in the Eastern Conference behind the Philadelphia Union, controlled most of the 45 minutes and six minutes of extension in the first half, often worked in the box and triggered shots on the goal.

Cincinnati had seven shots in the first half, four in the goal and ended the night with 11 or six.

Messi and the rest of the herons kept the defense in chess in the first half. Every opportunity that Miami had was thwarted by Cincinnatis strong back line.

Messi had two attempts to shoot at the end of the first half, but none of them were rebuilt to tie the match. His first shot was blocked by Cincinnati defender Lukas Engel, and his second attempt was saved by the diving Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano.

Celentano scored two parades for Cincinnati, his seventh season sheet. His goalkeeper colleagues Oscar Ustari, who left an injury in the first half, and Rocco Ríos Novo for four parades for Miami.

“It is still not very new with regard to Oscar's situation,” said Mascherano. “We have no results for what it could be, so tomorrow we will surely be able to check the extent of the injury with a few tests.”

Miami ended the day in fifth place in the east, although the team has three games in hand and could make up a large part of the 8-point deficits that separates it from the first place from the first place.

Without doing excuses, Mascherano also started the team's injury problems during the season and added that a summer packed with Jam with four games at the World Club Championship probably influenced the general fitness and intensity of the team.

“I am not a specialist in relation to injuries. It clearly worries me because the team ends up in the end of many muscle injuries,” said Mascherano. “The intensity of the games we played, especially in the last one and a half months, was very, very high.
