The Open 2025: Scottie Scheffler on the Daily Wrestle, why he plays Golf

His wife Meredith gave birth to her son Bennett 14 months ago and Scheffler said that if Golf would influence his family, he would leave sport.

“I am blessed to be able to play golf, but if my golf ever influences my home life or ever affects the relationship that I have with my wife or son, this will be the last day that I play here for my living,” he added.

“This is not the ancestor and the end. This is not the most important thing in my life. Is that why I struggle with the so important for me?

“Because I would rather be a great father than a great golfer. That is more important to me.”

Scheffler won three times this year, a second-placed and eight other top 10 events.

He has not finished the top 25 this season and has not missed a cut since the Fedex St. Jude Classic in August 2022.

“Every year at the Masters, it is like: 'Why do I want to win this golf tournament so much? Why do I want to win the open championship so much?'

“I don't know, because if I win it will be great for two minutes, then we will come to the next week and it is: 'Hey, you won two majors this year. How important is it to win the Fedex Cup play offs for you?'

“It feels like working all their lives to win a tournament for a few minutes. It only takes a few minutes, this kind of euphoric feeling.”
