The five best rounds in the history of the Open Championship, including Phil Mickelson's best of all time

The Open Championship 2025 is just around the corner because we prepare for the last major of the golf year.

It is a highly expected open open championship at Royal Portrush, since the Northern Irish fans hope that favorite Favorit Rory McIlroy will win his second open title against Scottie Scheffler and Bryson Dechameau.

We saw some incredible golf rounds that were played at the championship because of its famous story. Here we throw one of the best.

5. Shane Lowry – 2019 Royal Portrush, third round

On the way to demanding the Open Championship 2019 at Royal Portrush, Shane Lowry started to shoot 63 and storm into the tournament lead. He later said it was the only time that he was ever “in the zone”.

He has set up a new course record from a loud northern Irish crowd that cheered him on, since a price conversion in 2016. He made eight birdies and didn't drop a shot. He met 17 of 18 GREEN in regulation.

He even approached a ninth birdie on the 18th, which agreed with the record evaluation in a major. After the round, he said: “To be honest, this is the most incredible day I've ever had on the golf course.”

The following day, Lowry navigated tricky conditions to run away with the championship and won with six strokes.

4. Phil Mickelson – 2013 Muirfield, final round

Phil Mickelson, who went back five shots for the last day, played what he described when the best round that I have ever played to win his first open championship.

He started with four straight birdies on the way to a score of 66. At Loch 10 he was only two shots back, then the American ran through the finishing band with four birdies in his last six holes.

Mickelson won his only open with three shots and forced an eight shot against Lee Westwood for victory.

3 .. Paul Lawrie – 1999 Carnoustie, last round

Paul Lawrie started the last round of the Open Championship 10 shots from 1999, but shot an immense 67 under terrible conditions to force a playoff hole, and finally won the championship.

At the beginning of the day he was not even among the top 10 and demonstrated how impressive his four-below performance was on Scotland's connections.

The 1999 Open will be remembered as a “collapse in Carnoustie” when Jean van de Velde has the 18th three framework to force a three-way playoff. But Lawrie's performance should also be remembered, and he put his way into the dispute and then stole the victory.

2. Branden Grace – 2017 Royal Birkdale, third round

In 2017 Branden was the first player in the great championship history to record a score of 62. He made an incredible eight birdies in a flawless performance of the third round.

On the way to the recording, he burged the holes 16 and 17 before parroting the last hole to secure the main record and course record in Royal Birkdale.

Grace has now engraved '62' on his iron to remember his remarkable round

1. Henrik Stenson – Royal Troon 2016, last round

Henrik Stenson met the legendary Phil Mickelson in 2016 and scored a sensational 63 in 2016 to win the open championship. It was the second round 63 to win the Claret jug.

That day the Swede made four birdies in the last five holes and 11 birdies. This gave him a championship grade of 20 under, which is the best number of victory in the famous history of the Open Championship.

Mickelson also shot one of the best last rounds in an open and scored a score of 65. It was a really titanic struggle between two players at the top of their games.
