Chris Gotterup has Rory McIlroy to win Scottish Open

American Chris Gotterup “has impressively” like a champion to prevent Rory McIlroy and the Chasing Pack for the greatest victory of his career with a remarkable Scottish open success.

The world number 158, which started the last round with McIlroy with McIlroy, showed an admirable nerve to register a closure of 66 and triumph with two shots on 15 under in the Renaissance Club.

Mcilroy's challenge came up with the back nine and he shared second place with England's Marco Penge.

The 25-year-old Gotterup not only won £ 1.2 million and his second PGA tour title, but also secured a debut in the open at Royal Portrush next week.

Gotterup fought back against tears when he said: “I just put it firmly in it and tried to hold it together.

“It's amazing. It all hits me. It's just so cool. I played very well this week and I knew that it would be hard today.

“It was a pleasure to be out there with Rory, and obviously the support he gets is amazing, but it was nice to ruin that a bit.”

In addition to Nicolai Hojgaard, Matt Fitzpatrick ended three shots from the top, while Justin Rose was another back after releasing the lowest round of the day with a Bogy Free 63.

Xander Schauffele, who begins his Claret jug -defense on Thursday, ended with nine against Scottie Scheffler and Ludvig Aberg with nine under.

DANE HOJGAARD and Germany's Matti Schmid earned the other two open places that were available for those who were not already excluded.
