Ronald 'Wyn' Davies: Former Wales and Newcastle striker Starrben at the age of 83

After starting his career as a player, while working in a slate quarry with local locomotive Llanberis and Caernarfon Town, Davies signed for Wrexham in 1960 before he was recorded by Bolton.

After moving to Bolton, Davies was first covered by Wales against England in October 1963 and performed against Poland in September 1973.

The first of his six international goals arrived in 1964 and achieved Wales an early lead in a 3-2 victory against Scotland.

However, Davies' most famous strike came in November 1966 and scored the only goal by Wales in a 5-1 defeat against an English team that was now crowned as world champion.

After four seasons with Bolton with Bolton, Newcastle snapped Davies for a club record of 80,000 pounds at the time and he was part of the famous Magpies team, which won the Inter -Cities Fair Cup in 1969, the competition that later became the UEFA Cup -the only major European silverware of the club.

In 1971 Davies ran to Manchester, first played for City – where he won the FA Charity Shield in 1972 and repeated his striking partnership with the ex -Bolton colleague Francis Lee – and then United before going to Blackpool in 1973.

Magic in Stockport County and Crewe Alexandra followed before Davies returned to Wales in 1978-79 to end his professional career in Bangor City, and then hung up his boots at the age of 37 in South Africa.

Davies worked as a baker in Bolton in his retirement.
