Heavy thunderstorm for Ottawa-Gatineau

A thunderstorm that could bring wind, rain and lightning through Ottawa. There is now a severe thunderstorm warning for the city and Gatineau.

At 2:15 p.m., Environment Canada said a number of storms that stretched from Dunrobin to Manotick and moved northeast.

Overall, according to the Environment Canada, heavy wind, rain and lightning were able to see heavy winds on Thursday in Ost Ontario and Western Quebec.

Prognostics say that on Thursday afternoon there is also the risk of a tornado in Ottawa. There is no mention of a Tornado risk for communities such as Bancroft and Belleville.

Wind gusts of up to 90 or 100 km/h are possible in the east of Ontario, and the area could get more than 50 millimeter rain. The storms could bring hail to the Outaouais.

The thunderstorm guard ended for the Deep River area around 1:40 p.m.

A heavy thunderstorm made its way to the east on Thursday over the Algonquin Park Area. A strong thunderstorm with the possibility of a tornado hit the Pembroke area in the late Thursday morning.

Some local heat warnings remain, but will probably end soon. A cold front that moves into the region contributes to the potential storms, say prognostics.

When a tornado forms, the residents recommend staying away from outer walls and windows, ideally to get out in a basement or on the ground floor, and from vehicles.

Environment Canada recommends staying indoors and covering it in a basement where possible in threatening weather, and strong winds can damage trees or buildings and tip over.

It exhibits a severe thunderstorm when the conditions for the development of a storm are favorable. A warning is issued if there are indications that a thunderstorm is imminent or occurs that creates harmful hail, wind or rain.
