If you use Virgin Media and have not updated your TV set-top box for some time, it is now a good time to make some urgent changes. It was confirmed that houses that use ages are soon blocked from the BBC IPlayer app. As soon as the update comes into force, those who have not switched to a newer device will find that they can no longer adapt to popular shows and entertainment such as Eastenders, victims and murder around the clock.

“We wrote directly to the small proportion of customers with a Tivo box that BBC IPLAYER used within the past six months to tell you that your box will not support the IPLAYER from July 23,” Virgin Media confirmed in a message sent to The Sun.

Which boxes are hit by the block?

According to Virgin, the devices affected are aging Tivo models that were first introduced over 10 years ago. Fortunately, those with newer V6 and 360 devices have no problems and can continue to display BBC content.

It is worth noting that Virgin should already be in contact with an upgrade if you have a box that will lose the iPlayer.

If you are one of those with an outdated box, it is worth saying yes when Virgin's email arrives.

If you do not do this, you only have a few weeks to enjoy access to Iplayer. As soon as the deadline is received this July, the streaming app no longer works.

It is unclear why BBC IPlayer loses support, but this is not a new problem for older devices. For example, WhatsApp often kills support for its app on older smartphones, as they simply cannot keep up with new functions.

There is another reason to update your Virgin box. The telecommunications company publishes regular updates for newer devices, including bonus channels. These changes recently included two services with British screen classics and Wedotv films, both of which arrived in virgin boxes.
