The 30 -year -old Chepngetich broke the world record to win the Chicago marathon in October 2024 and was wearing a time of two hours, nine minutes and 56 seconds.

HCTZ is used clinically to treat fluid retention and high blood pressure and is at any time prohibited under the Wada code (World Anti Doping Agency).

The time of Chepngetich in Chicago exceeded Ethiopian Tigst assefas of earlier record on the 2023 Berlin Marathon by almost two minutes.

HCTZ is often used as a masking agent and has a minimum level of 20 nanograms per milliliter (NG/ml) in the urine. The rehearsal of Chepngetich showed 3,800 ng/ml.

Chepngetich was not temporarily exposed to the AIU at the time of notification on April 16. On April 19, however, she opted for a voluntary preliminary suspension while the AIU examined.

“In the past few months, the AIU continued its investigation and today gave an indictment and imposed its own preliminary suspension,” said Aiu boss Brett Clothier.
