Wrong information about the death of the 13-year-old in the quarry led to threats, arrest

Sheboygan, Wisconsin (Wbay)-The police of Sheboygan said that misleading information on social media about the death of a 13-year-old boy in a quarry led to at least one arrest.

The body of a 13-year-old boy who went under the water and did not reappear in Jaycee Quarry Park in Sheboygan was recovered on Wednesday.

While the Scheboygan police continue to investigate the incident, the department said due to consistent accounts that witnesses provided, there is no indication that a foul was involved.

“At this point, all the information available is supporting that this was a tragic and heartbreaking accident,” the police said in a statement on Thursday.

After this incident, the Sheboygan police said that false and misleading information were distributed on social media, which led to increased emotions and the exchange of threats among the online members of the community.

The police said they examined one of the threats that led to an arrest.

“We are all asking to use caution and responsibility when it comes to the online parts of information. Please check the facts before releasing again, and remember that speculation and rumors only cause grief,” said the police.

The police would like to remind the public that swimming in the Sheboygan Quarry is only allowed in the regular business hours in designated areas. Both the Sheboygan Jaycees Quarryview Park and the Sheboygan Quarry Beach Adventure Park and water sports have been open again since then.
