The Open 2025: Harris English for lead without normal caddy after visa rejection for earlier drug charge

The Open 2025: Harris English for lead without normal caddy after visa rejection for earlier drug charge

Harris English is tied to the ranking list after the first round at the Open Championship 2025, but the long -time veteran of the PGA tour sets off without his normal caddy through Royal Portrush. Eric Larson has been in English bags since 2021 and helped him win three out of five times on the PGA tour while publishing a number of strong surfaces in Majors, including a T2 at the PGA championship at the beginning of this year.

This week, however, the English Putting coach Ramon Bescansa is looking for him in Northern Ireland because Larson has rejected his visa application.

While Larson was on his pocket for numerous opening, a new law in the United Kingdom requires that the Americans acquire a visa for electronic travel authorities. One of the reasons for the rejection of this visa is a criminal conviction that leads to 12 or more months in prison.

Thirty years ago, Larson was convicted of selling cocaine and served in prison for 10 years before he was released in 2006.

English tried everything he could to approve Larson for the visa – the PGA tour, the R&A and the US ambassador's office to write letters that appeal to for his approval – without success according to the associated press.

“You wrote a letter. The R&A wrote a letter. The PGA tour wrote a letter. A charity event Eric works a letter in the states (Operation New Hope). It is not because of a lack of effort,” said English at the Scottish Open. “I think it could sit on the government somewhere.”

English spoke to Bunked this week after learning that the attraction had been refused that the situation was “silly”.

“I did everything to help,” said English. “He had a lot of people who help him, and I think it just didn't get into the right hands or the right people to see that he is not a threat to society. That he only helps me over here and helps me to do the best to win an open championship. I think it's a bit of Sill.

“We had a good big run. I mean, 12th in the master, second in the PGA, didn't play great at Oakmont [US Open]But I did the cut. It is what it is, but it's shit. He is only disappointed. I think he had a lot of optimism that he would be able. “

English seems to have made an unfortunate situation in a little motivation. His performance in the first round was fantastic, and at some point he took over the solo lead with 5 under before coming back to the pack.

English found that Larson's best quality is his ability to enjoy everything. Now he has to find a way to navigate to his side by stressing a weekend in dispute over a major without this familiar, calming voice.
