Highlights from New York's upstate Art Weekend 2025 – The Art Newspaper

His sixth edition starts as the UAW (upstate art weekend) (Until this year has more than 155 participants that overlay galleries, studios, museums and art centers throughout the region.

UAW was founded in 2020 by Helen Toomer (a co -founder of both Stoneleaf Retreat and art mum) as a means of interaction during the isolation of the Covid 19 pandemic. It is now supported by the team behind Space Design + Production and sponsored by Bloomberg Connects.

Below you will find some highlights for those who are upstate this weekend.

Army of the frog studioPresent Eclectic cream

Hidden in the historic hamlet of High Falls, the eccentric army of Frogs Studio and bizarre sculpture park organized Eklectic cream, Mix an exhibition with phantasical works that mix the zoomorphic figuration and surrealistic abstraction. These range from mail boxes from Brent Owens to ceramic amphibians from Dasha Bazanova. The artist talks curated and led by the artist Amelia Biewald are planned for 18, 19, 19 and 20 July at 4 p.m.

Mother -in -law galleryPresent Muscle And Collateral magic

In this converted carriage house in Germantown, Jacob Rhodes (from field projects), Jessica Hargreaves and Elijah Wheat Showroom are currently at home. Rhodes 'and Hargreaves' project, Muscle (Until September 27th) is a group show with more than 60 outdoor sculptures. Meanwhile, Elijah Wheat Showroom offers an installation of the artist Johannah Mr. alongside her solo show Collateral magicWith a view to the space of the mother -in -law on site.

Center for Photography in WoodstockPresent The rose

After its major revision, the Center for Photography in Woodstock (CPW) in Kingston organizes a group show entitled ” The rose (Until August 31), organized by photographer Justine Kurland and the CPW curator Marina Chao. The exhibition examines Collage as a feminist form and includes the work of legendary figures such as VIJA Celmins, Wangechi Mutu, Lee Bondecou and Lorna Simpson.

Hessel Museum of Art am Bard College

On July 19, the Hessel Museum of Art offers detailed tours of its current exhibitions. Stan Douglas: Ghostlight And All types of experiments: Lates of Baghdad Modern Art GroupFrom every hour. The last tour starts at 4 p.m.

Jesse Bransford HousePresent Peculiar manufacturer

The artist Jesse Bransford has an octagonal house in Catskill. The strangely shaped home was part of a phenomenon of the 19th century and was said to be a spiritual portal for occultism. This year, curator Marie Catalano takes over the property with a group show inspired by Kunstkammer Peculiar manufacturer. It contains a creepy selection of objects, such as ceramic spiders by Heidi Lau and dynamic mannequins by Anna-Sophie Berger.
