Shawn Lemon can resume his Canadian career in the football league, and a return to the Montreal -Alouettes seems to be imminent.

The league set the veteran -defensive -lineman again on Wednesday. The 36 -year -old Lemon was suspended for an indefinite period on April 24, 2024 because he worked on league games in 2021, while a member of the Calgary Stampeders, including a game in which he played.

After an appeal, an independent referee confirmed the suspension.

“Protecting the integrity of the play on the field is of the utmost importance, and we will not tolerate the players who violate the manipulation policy of the CFL,” said CFL commissioner Stewart Johnston in an explanation. “Mr. Lemon's suspension, which was the longest in the history of the league, was necessary and appropriate.

“He has taken full responsibility for his actions. He understands how the acting has a negative impact on sport and has re-selected himself in league policy. He is now obliged to help other players learn from his mistake.”

The reinstatement has certain conditions. Any future violations of the manipulation policy of the league will lead to lifelong ban.

Lemon, who is currently a free agent, was seen how he awarded the Montreal Olympic Stadium with an Alouettes hat and the team's backpack on Wednesday with the backpack of the team. He did not immediately answer an interview request from the Canadian press.

“We just don't comment on him at the moment. He is not yet part of our team,” said Alouettes head coach Jason Maas, moments before. “But I think everyone who knows us and how we feel about Shawn has not changed.

Lemon can't play immediately. According to the league's drug policy, he still faces a two-game suspension after it has been positively tested for the forbidden stimulant phenta dates, which is prescribed as an appetite uppressant.

Suspending players cannot take part in the regular season or after the season. It is at the discretion of the club whether the players enable players to take part in other team activities such as the training camp before the season, exercises or meetings.

The Alouettes linacker Darnell Saney could not hide his excitement about Lemon's potential return.

“Lemon is a damn another player, an even better man, and I have the feeling that he definitely deserves another shot in this league,” said Saney. “He has done many great things and he is an amazing player and we are excited.

“We try to concentrate on who is here, and if he comes back, we will welcome him back with open arms when that happens.”

Lemon must complete all mandatory league training, including the manipulation policy of the CFL -Match and still to advisory sessions in which he took part.

The original suspension of the CFL from Lemon came two weeks after his retirement, after helping Montreal to defeat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-24 in the '23 Gray Cup. In December 2023, Lemon initially signed a one-year contract with the alouettes to play a 14th CFL campaign.

At the time, the league said that there is no evidence that the games from Lemon's bets were affected and that Stampeder's coaches, teammates and team staff were not aware of his actions.

Lemon made a lock in May, which made it possible for him to report in Montreal training camp and play with the CFL team. He helped the Alouettes with four wins in a row before another referee decided on July 4 to repeat the original indefinite lock of the league.

3-time gray cup champion

Lemon's appeal was heard on August 2 and August 5. He continued to train with the alouettes, but did not play in any of her remaining 14 administrations in the regular season or their final defeat against Toronto in the East Division.

Lemon became a free agent this low season.

The six foot two, 242 pound lemon is a three-time gray cup champion. Born in Charleston, SC, he began his professional career at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as a practical merchant player in 2011 and spent time with every CFL team, some several times, with the exception of Hamilton.

He won Gray Cups with Calgary (2014), Toronto (2017) and Montreal (2023).

Lemon also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers in San Francisco as well as two teams from the arena football League and another in the indoor football League.

Lemon has recorded 262 duels, two special teams and 102 sacks about his CFL career. He also had three interceptions, 30 forced fiddling and returned to a fiddling restore for a touchdown.

He was CFL All-Star in 2022 when he had 14 sacks with Calgary and this season was the top defensive player of the West Division.
