The cause of fatal gas leaks in the Lexington Apartment Complex

Lexington, Ky. (WKYT) – One person was killed and 11 more were hospitalized after a gas leak in a Lexington apartment complex last week.

By requesting the open records, Samantha Valentino received copies of all complaints about Oxford Circle Apartments, which were presented to the code enforcement, which returned until January 1, 2024.

Most complaints were about the lack of working atmosphere in various units.

A complaint submitted on May 29 mentions asphalt in a “bad form” and damaged brick.

In the case information, however, the recent conviction of the building is mentioned due to the gas leak.

While the city of Lexington has not publicly explained the cause of the gas leak, the fall information states that “the mechanical devices were malfunctioned, which caused Co to spread through units”.

WKYT turned to the city of Lexington to get more information about the cause of the gas leak. They sent us the following explanation:

“The department for code enforcement of the city is aware of an improper working boiler system in Oxford Circle Apartment.
