Harrison County emphasizes school -consumption when the new school year is approaching

Harrison Co., Miss. (WLOX) – With the school year, school buses will drive again on the streets. On Thursday, the Harrison County School took steps to ensure that all bus drivers know how to use security technology on board.

The transport department of the Harrison County school district drives more than 10,000 students a day. The bus drivers met on Thursday for their annual training, which offers the function of stop arm cameras. These cameras were installed four years ago. Now more than 200 buses are equipped.

The bus driver Michael Necaise, who is also known to his students as “Mr. Mike”, says that in his 18 years after driving, he saw many cases in which these cameras were needed.

“Years ago we had an incident on a route on which I was, Highway 53 – we had the same type every day that passed the bus every day,” he said. “So we made the Sheriff department sit there near the Highway 53, and they stopped him. He went to Poplarville every day, and he just didn't think he had to stop for this bus.”

They are alleged incidents like this, in which Dashcam film material drives a car on the shoulder so as not to stand behind a school bus. These stop-arm cameras do the same except that they are under the stop sign of a school bus to catch cars that drive next to driving and avoid traffic laws.

Thad Shaw, transport director of Harrison County School District, says that these technology improvements should enforce the “Nathan law”.

“It essentially requires that drivers stop 10 feet, as I have already mentioned, and allows the authorities to pursue people who do not do this,” said Shaw.

For Mr. Mike, the mission is to keep the students in depth.

“Pay attention when you are at the wheel,” he says. “If you have to call an SMS SMS. It's just not worth it. These children are our future.”

The Harrison County school district begins on Tuesday, July 29th.
