A high -ranking official of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) was exposed to allegations of the entry of a classified government document, which is associated with sensitive trade negotiations with the United States.

Mukitul Hasan, the second secretary of the customs policy of the NBR, was removed from the duty after an internal probe. According to the termination regulations, Mukitul violated the official discipline by revealing a “very confidential state document”.

Later, a case was submitted to the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station under the official Secret Act.

Sources within the NBR say that the document in question applies to an ongoing collective bargaining between Bangladesh and the United States, which are led as part of a confidentiality contract (NDA). The content of such discussions is likely to be legally shared from both sides.

Mukitul Hasan was directly involved in the negotiating process and represented Bangladesh in the talks on a high level.

The suspension was signed and exhibited today (July 16) by the NBR chairman and the secretary of the Division (Internal Resources Division) (IRD). In an interview with the business standard, the NBR chairman confirmed the suspension of the official and announced that court proceedings have already been initiated.

The incident received greater attention after a local Bangla Media Outlet briefly published a report based on the leaked document. The report was later decreased, but not before it attracted public attention and examination of civil servants, which led to immediate internal measures.

In the meantime, the government also suspended M Zillur Rahman, deputy director of Central Intelligence Cell.

Ird said the suspension of the order that Zillur was suspended due to publicly torn transmission arrangement.

Both were made a special obligation to become an officer.

Yesterday, another 14 officials from NBR were suspended their transmission commands for “publicly torn”.
