The California teacher found dead in Sequoia National Park after being reported missing the day before

According to the National Park Service, a California teacher was found dead in the Sequoia National Park one day after the missing message.

Drew Hall, a 36-year-old boy basketball coach at the Golden West High School in Visalia, was reported to friends and family in the late Saturday times after he had separated with his group after a national park service later after a national park service Press release. Hall should cross particularly rough terrain during the hike, but was also described by Park Rangers as “fit and active”.

The next morning, Park Rangers and Febendgeders were sent to search for Hall, of which still hadn't been heard. It was found on Sunday at 3 p.m. by friends and family under the Sawtooth peak-a notoriously 11.5-mile trail-um 3 p.m.-a notoriously difficult path of 11.5 miles.

“Our hearts go to the family and friends of the hiker. We encourage everyone to take additional precautions and stay vigilant and at the same time enjoy the beauty of these national parks. Safety must always be the top priority,” said Chief Ranger David Fox in the release.

This is the fifth death and the 60th search and rescue operation, to which Sequoia and King's emergency personnel reacted this year, according to the publication. Five of this search and rescues took place last weekend, the publication added.

It was not immediately clarified by the authorities what caused Hall's death.

The National Park Service did not react immediately to a request for comment on the frequency of these incidents in the park. The law firm Panish, Shea & Ravipudi found in a published analysis Last year, the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park reported 30 deaths per 10 million park visitors between 2007 and 2024. The analysis rated Sequoia and Kings Canyon as the 13th most dangerous national park, which is based on deaths per 10 million park visitors, and the North Cascades National Park in the state of Washington was described as the most dangerous death states with 601 death states.

“This was a challenging year for our search and rescue teams,” said Fox.
