Nadler, Duffy Spar via MTA -U -Bahn -Crime at the hearing of the house

A brewing campaign between the New York leaders and the federal authorities against U -Bahn security cooked this week on the Capitol Hill.

The representative of Manhattan, Jerry Nadler, described the US Transport Minister Sean Duffy as a “liar” during a hearing on Wednesday and accused him of being able to incorrectly characterized the crime rates in the New York U -Bahn system. In return, Duffy said that Nadler “lied”.

Since his arrival in the US Transport Ministry, Duffy has repeatedly led against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and the state officials, including Governor Kathy Hochul. He has occupied the U -Bahn as dangerous and a terrible alternative for commuters to avoid traffic jam prices – another main goal of the Trump White House.

For example, Duffy said in May, during a performance in Fox Business: “They have criminals. They are homeless accommodation, they are blatant asylum, and it is a work area for the criminal element of the city to make good people victim.”

In March he said: “If you want people to take the train, take transit, then make sure, clean it, make it nice, make it wonderful. Don't make it an S-Loty.”

The NYPD data shows that transit crime in the first of 2025 with 3% withdraws, compared to the same period of the previous year. It has decreased by around 8% compared to 2019.

However, critics – including Duffy – have integrated the rate of crime attacks in the first five months of 2019 to 262 in the first five months of this year, according to the NYPD information.

However, the same data record shows a considerable decline in the number of main crimes committed on average daily in the past two decades. In the first five months of 1997, the MTA system saw an average of about 16 large crimes per day. There were fewer than six a day in the first five months of 2025.

In an interview after the hearing, Nadler accused the Trump administration of looking for retaliation against New York and asked Duffy to step down.

“Either he is completely ignorant or he is completely dishonest,” said the Member of the Congress. “Obviously we want crime to be zero, but with what we have done, the New York U -Bahn system is the country's safest U -Bahn system.”

In an explanation, Danna Almeida, a spokesman for the US Ministry of Transport, said: “Jerry Nadler and far left New York Democrats are the reason why New Yorkers are not safe on her own transit systems.

“You cannot invent this, just as Nadler cannot avoid the truth,” she continued.

Spectrum News asked the Ministry of Transport, how often sec. Duffy has used the New York U -Bahn in the past five years. They did not provide any number until the deadline.

Duffy came on board during an event in April Eric Adams.

Nadler's team said the congress member was a long -time supporter and driver of the U -Bahn all his life.
