David Wright's career highlights with the Mets

The Mets honor David Wright on Saturday by retiring his No. 5 and lending it to the Mets Hall of Fame. Here are some selected career highlights from Wrights for 14 years with the METS:

July 21, 2004, Shea Stadium

David Wright gives his MLB debut before 30,227 fans. He went with a 5: 4 win against Expos 0: 4, but doubled the next day for his first career hit.

July 26, 2004, Shea Stadium

Hits first career -Homerun – in front of Montreal John Patterson.

June 18, 2005, Safeco Field, Seattle

Wright jumped on the stands to make Raul Ibanez 'bad popup spectacular for the finale of the fourth inning of a 4-1 loss to the Mariners.

August 9, 2005, Petco Park, San Diego

Wright returned to the flat left-wing sports field to make a shoulder-free baking hand grave, and Rob Brian Giles from a basic goal in an 8: 3 defeat against the Padres.

May 19, 2006, Shea Stadium

Wright delivered a walk-off single to the wall of the midfield in front of Mariano Rivera with two outs in ninth place to give the Mets a 7: 6 victory against the Yankees. Wright went with two runs 3-on-5.

July 11, 2006, PNC Park, Pittsburgh

In his first all-star game, Wright in the second inning hit a solo homerun by Kenny Rogers. He went in his seven all-star appearances with an ops of 0.977 7: 18.

September 16, 2007, Shea Stadium

Wright met a solo homer in the seventh inn to become the 29th player in MLB history, and the third Met to join the 30-30 club. He ended the season with 30 Homeruns and 34 stolen bases.

March 17, 2009, Dolphin Stadium, Miami

Since the team USA is equipped in the World Baseball Classic, Wright hit a single with two runs in the ninth inning of a 6: 5 victory against Puerto Rico to send the USA into the semi-finals.

April 13, 2009, Citi Field

Wright met the first Mets Homerun in Citi Field History. The three-run explosion tied the score in the fifth inning at 5. The Mets lost to the Padres, 6-5.

April 27, 2010, Citi Field

In the fifth inn of the second game of a Doubleader against the Dodgers, Wright got his 1,000. Career hit, an RBI single to give the Mets a 4: 3 lead. Wright beat a triple triple in the sixth and the Mets Won 10: 5.

August 24, 2012, Citi Field

Wright met his 200th career Homerun, a solo blast to the right field in the fourth inning of a 3-1 defeat against the Astros. With 242 career homers, Wright is only behind Darryl Strawberry (252) and Pete Alonso (247) on the METS METS list.

September 26, 2012, Citi Field

Wright excluded a floor ball for an infield single to survive Ed Kranepool as the leader of the Mets ever with 1,419. He went 6-0 against the pirates 2: 4. One night before, Wright met a single with two runs to bind crane pools. He ended his career with 1,777 goals, which is a record of the METS.

March 9, 2013, Chase Field, Phoenix

Wright scored a starting shot grand Slam in the first round of the World Baseball Classic in the fifth inner inning of Team USA against Italy to strengthen his nickname “Captain America”. Wright went in the classic with 10 RBIs 7-to-16, the team had to leave the USA with a risk bus injury early.

March 21, 2013, Port St. Lucie, Florida

Wright was appointed the fourth captain of Mets history in a spring training ceremony. Keith Hernandez, Gary Carter and John Franco are the only other meters that deserve honor.

February 2014

Wright is selected as the “face of MLB” in an online fan voting competition that strikes the information from Oakland athletics Infielders Eric Sogard.

August 24, 2015, Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia

At the beginning of the season, the Mets were not sure whether Wright would ever play again after the spinal stenosis, a degenerative back condition, was diagnosed. He returned four months later and met a Homerun to the second deck in his first relapse, when the mets won 16: 7.

October 30, 2015, Citi Field

Wright scored a Homerun with two runs in the first inn of Game 3 of the World Series. He went 2: 5 with four RBIs in a 9: 3 victory, the only one of the METS series against Kansas City.

September 29, 2018, Citi Field

Wright made his last start, in which the fifth inning was removed from the crowd to loud ovation. After the game, Wright spoke the 43,928 fans of Citi Field with the words: “This is love.”
