Ranchos suspected that he shot, hurt a friend, killed her ex-husband | crime

The argument began when Castañeda came home to find Antonio Gomez and Michelle Gomez, Castaeñeda's girlfriend and to leave the house. Castañeda allegedly fired his weapon in Antonio, killed him and wounded his girlfriend in his arms.

Castañeda is charged with a fatal weapon due to the first degree murder and a heavy battery. He also faces four cases of child abuse, since four children were at home at the time of the incident.

“Eduardo said that he understood that he was responsible for every round he had fired, but only aimed at Antonio,” Flores wrote in his complaint.

The New Mexico State Police Criminal Investigations Bureau passed the case shortly after the first examination by Flores. After Castañeda opened the fire, he fled towards Espinoza Road on foot and hid in a bush, which led to an hourly search for law enforcement authorities.

“From a distance I could see some red lights flashing and I was curious about what it was,” said TD Haldiman, who lives on the Espinoza Road. “I continued the Espinoza road towards NM 518 and when I came to the area in which the incident was, I saw numerous police vehicles – mainly state police and at least 15 to 20 vehicles with a number of people who did about them.”

Haldiman saw the vehicles around 5 p.m. on Wednesday. After returning from a hike around 7 p.m., he saw a helicopter, a K9 unit, ATVS and two semi-trucks armored vehicles.

“There were more vehicles and I didn't really know what the operation was,” he said.

Castañeda's first hearing is planned on Friday (July 18), 11 a.m. in the 8th courthouse in Taos.
