Wilmington Downtown, Inc. Forms in downtown Community Watch & Safety Coalition

Wilmington, NC (et) – Wilmington Downtown, Inc. (WDI) has announced the formation of a community Watch & Safety Coalition in the city center.

According to WDI, the coalition is a business initiative that was formed to strengthen communication, coordination and common responsibility in the central business district of Wilmington. It is a platform for stakeholders to overcome important challenges, improve perception in terms of security and protect long -term vitality.

The coalition will concentrate on the organization of an internal communication system and the development of early leadership and support at the beginning of the phase, says WDI.

The WDI worked with companies in the city center, owners and residents to form the coalition.

The WDI plans for the coalition to support more extensive discussions and collaboration with public partners such as the city of Wilmington, New Hannover County, the Wilmington Police Department, the Sheriff office of New Hannover County, the district prosecutor, the ABC Commission, the prosecution of alcohol and others.

“WDI is obliged to keep this dynamics going and to ensure a prosperous future for the city center. However, we cannot ignore that some persistent problems, including the recent concerns about crimes and public security, threaten this continued progress,” said President and CEO of WDI, Christina Haley. “Now we need a uniform voice and attitude towards public security more than ever. This is about protecting our community and the future of our city center.”

WDI also forms a subcommittee for the community Watch and Safety in the city center to support the continuing development and public relations work of the coalition.
