All-clear given after gas leak at old Ky. plant prompts evacuation

ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – A gas leak prompted an evacuation in Anderson County.

Emergency management officials say there was a natural gas leak at the old YKK plant on Industry Road.

This morning we were called to assist Lawrenceburg Fire and Rescue with evacuations for a gas leak. Below are some important safety tips.

Gas Leak Safety Tips

1. Recognize the Signs: Smell for a sulfur-like odor (rotten egg smell) or listen for hissing sounds near gas lines.

2. Leave Immediately: Evacuate the area immediately if you suspect a gas leak.

3. Do Not Investigate: Do not attempt to locate the leak yourself. Leave the area and call your gas provider or emergency services.

4. Stay Away: Keep a safe distance until professionals assess the situation. Avoid re-entering the area until given the all-clear.

5. Be Prepared: Have an emergency plan and ensure all household members know the steps to take during a gas leak.

Stay safe and always report any suspicious gas odors or activities to your local authorities!
