Los Angeles (KABC) – Days after the body of a 5-year-old boy was found near a garbage container in Panorama City, a suspect was arrested for murder in the case, the authorities said on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the police authority in Los Angeles confirmed the arrest of 20-year-old Brycson Gaddis and added that a second suspect was arrested for charges. No further details were presented.

The police and family identified the boy as Elyjiah Hearn.

“You are always in my heart. I love you. You will never leave me,” said Troy Hearn, the boy's grandfather, about Elyjiah. “He is now with his grandmother, so I know that the Lord has him. I don't know what to do now. I'm so deaf, I'm disturbed.”

The police said Gaddis was the friend of the boy's mother, but Hearn said he was an ex-boyfriend. Hearn said they had a violent relationship.

“I know he did it … and I'm just sorry that I haven't done anything yet,” said Hearn.

Gaddis is not the victim's biological father, the police said. According to the Los Angeles County prison records, he was held against a bail of $ 2 million.

The announcement took place in the morning after the members of the community gathered to mourn the boy with a vigil, and the mood shifted when the police enabled an arrest warrant in the investigation for murder.

The group gathered on Tuesday evening in a growing monument to candles, balloons flowers in a parking lot on which the deceased boy was found.

In the meantime, the officials served a search order and a nearby apartment complex in the Lanark Street, just half a mile from the crime scene. News videos showed that people were arrested, including a man in a wheelchair and a woman.

A large amount gathered in front of the apartment building and mocked as a LAPD patrol car with the lights and sirens. Details on the search command were not published.

“I can't imagine how lonely in the last moments he must have felt,” said Kiera Nelson, based in Sun Valley. “It's just such a hideous crime.”
