Winthrop Harbor woman gets 7 years in the death of a friend

A WINTHROP porter who killed her boyfriend by ran over him by car was sentenced to seven years in prison, said Lake County's prosecutors on Friday.

The 38 -year -old Candace Wrobel was guilty on Thursday that driving under the influence of the incident in March 2023, in which the 40 -year -old Cody Humphrey was killed, guilty.

According to police and court files, the Winthrop Harbor police were called to Humphrey's house on March 19, 2023 in the 1300 Block of the Sheridan Road to receive a report on a domestic disorder.

Officers found that Humphrey had driven under the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital in which he was declared dead. During the initial appearance of Wrobel in 2023, the prosecutors outlined an area of broken bones and other injuries that Humphrey had suffered.

The authorities said the couple argued the night before, and that Wrobel had returned to Humphrey's house shortly after noon on Sunday. The couple landed outside and wrobel told the police that she “shot” her car when she drove Humphrey and threw him into the bonnet before ran over him.

Humphrey, a native of Colorado, was a 20-year-old Chief Petty Officer of the US Navy and was in the process of withdrawing from duty when he died. A family member said that the victim and wrobel have been together for about a year.

As part of the prison sentence, Wrobel must have 85%minus 853 days for the time for the time in the district prison that is waiting for the process.
