Tanker goes off the highway, licking oil into the Indian Creek

Clallam County, Wash. – – A tanker drove from the motorway in Clallam County, fell into the Indian Creek and let fuel into the river.

What we know:

The crash took place around 10 a.m. on Highway 101 near the Elwha River Bridge, where the tanker went down a slope and tipped over to the stream.

The fuel from the tank truck runs in Indian Creek, the Elwha river. The Washington State Department of Ecology coordinates a HAZMAT pollution reaction.

Those who are downstream from fuel pollution are recommended to avoid entry or fishing in the river near the booms zone or in rifle areas.

The city of Port Angeles and Dry Creek are currently in water restrictions due to loss of fuel, which leads to a closure of the municipal water sources. The city works with the Department of Ecology, and the residents are recommended to monitor the city's website for updates.

The Highway 101 is currently only closed for local traffic between the Highway 112 junction and the East Beach Road in Maple Grove. There is no ETA when the road is reopened.

Washington State Patrol derives the fall examination.

Governor Bob Ferguson made an explanation of the tanker shaving on Friday:

“This is a devastating accident for Indian Creek and the Elwha River. This spill is for local tribes and other Washingtoners who rely on clean, healthy rivers and streams for their food and livelihood, for their food and their livelihood.
