Woman shot, killed as he went for dogs in San Leandro

A woman was shot when she went for a walk with her dogs in San Leandro and the police arrested a suspect.

The San Leandro police officers were called to the East 14th Street and Williams Street in reports on the shootout on Thursday shortly after 11.10 p.m. and found the woman injured at the scene.

“We found an adult female victim who apparently seemed to be a single gunshot wound,” said SLPD Lt. Abe Teng and added that women were taken to a hospital for treatment. “Unfortunately, she later succumbed to her injuries.”

A preliminary examination of the shootout showed that the woman with her boyfriend went with her dogs in the area when a suspicious vehicle overtook near her.

“The suspect left the vehicle and addressed the couple. After a short interaction, the suspect pulled a firearm and once shot the victim into the upper body,” said the SLPD, adding that the shooter got back into her car and fled out of the scene.

The friend of the woman and the two dogs were not injured while shooting.

The police did not leave the name of the woman and did not state whether she lived in the area in which she was shot.

The police closed the area from Thornton to the streets of the Castro, and two dogs could be tied to a pole when the authorities examined the scene. KTVU later learned that the two animals were brought to an animal shelter.

The San Leandro police later learned that a person had been arrested in Dublin for possessing a firearm. The circumstances of the arrest and the descriptions of the suspect and the vehicle “agreed” closely with those of the San Leandro murder, “said the police.

SLPD detectives were able to uncover more evidence and ultimately arrested 21-year-old Rohith Sunil from San Jose for murder suspicions in connection with the shootout in East 14th Street and Williams Street.

Parallels to kill June:

The San Leandro police recognized similarities between the murder of the woman and the fatal shootout of the 47-year-old Ryan M. Christie, who were killed when his dog is walking near the Euclid Avenue and the East 14th Street-etwas more than a mile of where the woman was shot. However, the police said there was no connection between the shootings.

“We recognize the parallels between this case and the murder of another victim last month, which goes for a walk with his dog, and we recognize the concerns of public security that could cause this in the community,” said the SLPD in an explanation. “Our previous investigation has not found a connection between the two murders or between the suspects arrested in any case. We have also found no basis to believe that they are part of a assembly pattern.”

Killing is San Leandro's third murder of the year.
