Las Vegas (AP) – The NBA can finally get a step closer on the long way to expansion.

On Tuesday, Commissioner Adam Silver said that the league would now study the topic as part of an in-depth analysis, which would be the first official change in a long process to add franchise companies.

There is neither the schedule for how long the process lasts, nor have decisions have been made about what the expansion fee will look like when the new teams begin with the game – or even if an extension will actually take place.

“A lot of analysis still has to be carried out and nothing has been predetermined,” said Silver after the governor's governor meeting ended in Las Vegas.

The league does not create a new committee to study the expansion. The tasks will initially fall primarily on two existing groups, with the consulting finance committee and the audit and strategy committee also involved.

The decision to give a more difficult insight into the expansion was not completely unexpected because the term to add clubs has been a topic of conversation for several years. Cities like Las Vegas and Seattle-Lange are perceived as the leaders, if the NBA decide to expand beyond their current 30-team footprint, will surely continue to press the possible picks. “For every team you add, you have the economy of the current league,” said Silver.

A new series of media law transactions worth 76 billion US dollars for this coming season and franchise values in the entire league have increased. The two franchise companies loaded by titles in the NBA, the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, who have teamed up for about half of the titles awarded in the history of the league, are also sold with a combined evaluation of at least $ 16.1 billion.

“It is the preference of the league that this team stays in Portland,” said Silver. “We have had great success over the years. I know that there are groups that actively deal with the estate and have shown interest in this team.”

Silver said that a factor in sales was that the “city of Portland probably needs a new arena”, which he said that it would be part of the challenge for every new group of owners.

Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft's billionaire, died of complications of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2018 at the age of 65. Since then, his sister Jody Allen has served as chairman of the Trail Blazers and the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL and the trustee of Paul G. Allen Trust.

The league has added seven franchise companies since 1988, but since 2004 none. Since then there have been several cases of renaming and move since – especially the Supersonics in Seattle, which moved to Oklahoma City in 2008 and has been thunder – but the league has been in 30 teams in the past two decades.
