Brockway – Discover Brockway was busy with new benches and flowers in Main Street, but that's just the beginning.

According to his mission statement, Discover Brockway “tries to pursue the revitalization of the community, to support sustainable economic development, to use existing assets and resources and to secure, manage and distribute funds in order to support purpose -oriented initiatives.” President Nancy Morrison recently gave an update of the Brockway Borough Council about how the organization is pursuing this mission.

Morrison said that Discover Brockway installed new benches along Main Street in May. Two more benches were ordered while the older benches on the Brockway Little League field found a new life. Discover Brockway also thanked the Menlle Foundation for their support from a recently published scholarship. Morrison said that the organization is actively pursuing more funding for financing upcoming initiatives.

The Main Street flower baskets are now looked after by local sponsors and volunteers, whose names are displayed on cards on every basket. The organization has also grown 37 business members, and window decal pictures are on the way to helping local shops to show their participation in the community.

With a view to the future, Discover Brockway works with the Ministry of Community and Economic Development of Pennsylvania (DCED) and PA Downtown to outline a multiple -phase vision for revitalization. A DCED vision and a planning subsidy will support this long-term process, whereby an introductory project is expected to begin in September and complete by spring 2026.

One of the more ambitious projects of the organization includes a new monument sign “Welcome to Brockway”, which was proposed for the Brockway Ambulance property along the Route 219. The group is currently working on plans and documents for the sign that would be created and illuminated until the approval of the grant is made. Morrison said the design would rather reflect a residential building than an industrial tone.

In order to optimize communication and commitment, Discover Brockway has introduced a new project survey, which is sent when the residents contact the organization via their website discoverbrockway.com. Community members can use the form to propose new ideas or apply for support for local projects.

As part of his efforts to bring people together and celebrate local creativity, Discover Brockway invites the public to the second annual Brockway Chalk Arts, which will be invited on Sunday, August 10th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Taylor Memorial Park on Sunday, August 10th. In the event, local artists, family -friendly activities and living sidewalk art are offered. For more information, see the organization or Facebook website.
