Older Cicero man who recovered from the West -Nil -Virus; First victim of the district since 2019

Cicero, NY -An older Cicero man recovered after he was infected with the potentially deadly West -Nil -Virus, district officials gave on Wednesday morning.

The man began his recovery in a local hospital before returning home, officials said.

West -nile through mosquitoes can lead to a brain disease that leads fever, headache, body pain, rash or swollen glands. People with severe cases suddenly have headaches, high fever, stiff neck, muscle weakness and changed psychological status.

Severe symptoms are rare, but can be fatal, especially with older people if they are at risk.

Regardless of this, a different potentially life-threatening virus, eastern horse encephalitis (EEE) were found in mosquitoes that are caught on the East Taft Road in Cicero.

The district data show that the number of mosquitoes caught in June was almost twice as high as caught a year ago. The figures for July decreased, but are just over a year over a year.

“Based on historical patterns, we should assume that West-Nile, East Equine Encephalitis and other viruses transmitted by mosquitoes are regularly present in our region,” said the health commissioner Dr. Kathryn Anderson in a press release. “It is important to take routine precautions against mosquito bites all summer, especially in view of the increased mosquito activity that we have seen in our surveillance program this year.”

The district provided a complete list of symptoms and prevention measures on its website.
