The Graham Hoffman Act would make attacks on first aiders a federal crime

Kansas City, Mo – A new proposed legislative proposal in honor of a favor Firefighter/paramedic Graham Hoffman Kansas City The aim is to protect first aiders from violence.

Hoffman, a three -year -old veteran of the Kansas City fire brigade, died after he was stabbed by a patient on April 27 during an ambulance.

The Graham Hoffman ActIntroduced by Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) And Maggie Hassan (Dn.H.), would make an attack on a police officer, a firefighter or an EMS provider as federal crimes.

“Graham Hoffman was a brave firefighter/paramedic, whose life was tragically cut off shortly before the attack by a well -known criminal who had been released from custody,” said Schmitt in an explanation. “This tragic loss underlines the urgent need to protect our first aiders who have put their lives on the game to serve our communities.”

Legislators hope that the legislative template for everyone who is considering violence against a specialist in public security serves a deterrent.

“First aiders have put their lives into play every day to protect our communities and they deserve our protection when they answer the call to help others,” said Hassan in an explanation. “This legislation honors the memory of fallen heroes by holding criminals who attack those who fully blame our communities for their crimes and send a clear message that targeting and attack on first aiders are not tolerated.”
