Scottie Scheffler builds a 4-shot lead at Open Championship

Scottie Scheffler builds a 4-shot lead at Open Championship

Deilthush, Northern Ireland-Scottie Scheffler, moved within a round on Saturday when he claimed the third stage of the Grand Slam when he made an eagle and two large parades for a 4-below 67 in the open championship, which at Royal Portrus achieved a lead with four shots.

The Roars belonged to Rory McIlroy, who apparently had all of Northern Ireland on his side, the roughest cheers on a 55-foot eagle putt.

But this championship is now in the hands of Scheffler, who won his last ten times when he had the 54-hole lead and showed nothing on a breathtaking day at Royal Portrush to show that he would return to his challenges.

“I'm just trying to do not rethink,” said Scheffler. “I have the feeling that I was doing the right thing so far and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's challenge.”

With Matt Fitzpatrick for the tour, Scheffler assessed with a 6-iron-geire perfect up to 10 feet for Eagle on the seventh hole of the Par-5. In deep difficulties behind the 11th green, he chopped on 10 feet to save Par, and then saved another par from the deep grass, which was on the left of 14th fairway.

Royal Portrush has an evil par-3 to No. 16 as a “misfortune corner”. Scheffler made Birdie for the third time in a row, this time a 3-iron that settled 15 feet below the cup.

Every shot helped him to move away from the field. Each shot moved closer to the Claret Krug to tell the PGA championship that he won in May, and the two green jackets that he has won in the past four years.

Scheffler was 14 under 199, four shots ahead of Haotong from China (69) and five before Fitzpatrick, who missed two short par-putts and fell back with 71.

Scheffler headed a shot to start the day, and seemed to get nothing to get the first three-putt of the championship on the Par-5 second to be satisfied with the Par-5 second, and a 10-foot-saving rescue on the third Par-3.

Fitzpatrick, who missed a short par putt in the first hole and made Bogey, quickly campaigned for it to break into the next hole for Eagle. He did his best to keep up, even after Scheffler had gone towards the end of the Nine Eagle-Birdie.

But he missed a 4-foot-saving putt on the 13th, got a bad jump on the 17th, which led to another Bogey and landed five shots behind.

“I just didn't do putts. I didn't hit it close enough,” said Fitzpatrick. “Fared it well enough, it didn't hit it close enough. I only did fewer putts than scottie.”

Scheffler is combined in the last group with Li, who wrote history at the PGA championship in 2020 when he held the 36-hole lead, the first player from China who leads in a major. Li did his first bogey in the 13th hole and he dropped another shot on the 18th by driving into a pot of bunker.

The Scottish Open Champion Chris Gotterup had a 68 in its first appearance at the British Open and joined the group with 8th 205, including McIlroy, Harris English (68) and Tyrrell Hatton (68).

This is Scheffler's biggest 54 -hole advantage in a major -he was up with three shots at the PGA championship and three shots at the 2022 Masters.
