Man dies after being pulled into MRI machine after wearing a metal chain: police


A 61-year-old man who had suffered critical injuries after being dragged into an MRI machine when he was dragged a metal chain, the police said on Friday.

According to the Nassau police authority, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in a medical building in Westbury, New York.

The officials answered after a call from Nassau Open MRI and were informed that the man “entered an unauthorized space for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) while the scan was in progress,” said the police in a statement.

“The male victim carried a large metallic chain around his neck, which pulls him into the machine that led to a medical episode,” said the police.

The man, whose name was not published, was brought to a local hospital in a critical condition, the police said.

Since then he has succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on Thursday afternoon, the police said.

The examination has not yet been completed, the police said.

MRI machines use a strong magnetic field in the production of detailed images. The patient is recommended to remove jewelry and other metal objects in front of the scan.

Nassau Open MRI, which has several locations, offers both open and closed scans, according to its website.

ABC News could not reach the location in Westbury to get a comment. The company refused to comment on the ABC New York Station WABC.
