Sheriff Waters, other JSO members go through District 5 to meet members of the community about crime in the region

Jacksonville, Fla. – Sheriff TK Waters and other members of the Sheriff of Jacksonville Sheriff went through District 5 on Saturday to meet parishioners in their area.

The walk started in the Baldwin and Canal Street and went to the Orchard Street along the Westbrook Center and Park. Then she drove right in the Bradford Street, then back to the place where he started in Baldwin and Canal.

Council member Ron Salem was present and heard some of the residents' concerns.

“I know that a mother expressed concerns about gangs and did not want her little son to get involved, and there were some shootings that have taken place here in the past,” said Salem.

The commander Harry Massey, commander of Patrouille District 5, said that the overall criminal rates had dropped in the region.

“I believe that 6 or 7% and violent crimes and murders have dropped 30% in mid -30%. So we have a good reduction in crime and I think our citizens are satisfied with it,” said Massey.

He talked about what JSO tried in this area.

“There are some bags with violent crimes and some deaths that we always want to address. We also have burglaries that tend to go up and down, especially in a new development area and converted houses,” said Massey.

City councilor Tyrona Clark-Murray, who represents the area, said it was good that water and JSO went around.

“It helps me to see that you see the neighborhood, see the community and that they are concerned about what is happening in the community,” said Clark-Murray.

She added that she was in close communication with Massey about the crime in the area and what to make it safer.

Some residents talked about a case in which they told water from a concessionally area that was not part of the hiking trail, and he had it brought it there.

“It feels good for me because we didn't have that, we have never had that,” said the woman.
