Herchen had claimed that Ku had sent him on November 30 by e -mail to change her plane tickets so that she could spend more time at her parents' home and that he had previously discontinued her at Hualien station.

However, an investigation refuted its account and unveiled several inconsistencies with its history.

A forensic expert said that the e -mail came from Herches Hotel. An official of the Taiwan Criminal Investigation Bureau also found that mobile phone data and license tracks showed that Herchen never brought KU to the train station and contradicted his statements.

A doctor who treated Herchen also said that he broke his hand on the date on which KU had disappeared.

Financial records and registration data from KUS accounts also showed no activity after the date on which it had disappeared.

Her family was initially aware that something was wrong on December 2, 2019 when they were unable to contact her on her birthday.

While the death of his former wife was attributed to sleep apnea, an autopsy report showed that she had several inexplicable injuries to her body.

Immediately after the judgment, the lawyer of Hersten, Chuck Smith, said his client continued to say innocence.

“He didn't kill his wife and there are reasons that she has no deal with everything he did,” Smith told the Mercury News. “It has a big secret about her and her background and her relationship with your family.”

Smith said that he and his client do not have to determine their next steps, including the question of whether they will challenge the jury Award.

“We didn't recover from the shock of the judgment,” said Smith. “I don't know if it will be according to the procedure after the procedure or an appeal.”
