The Hong Kong Observatory issued No. 10 Hurricane signal on Sunday at 9:20 a.m. and warned that the Taifun -wipha was a considerable threat to the city, as it would skim to south around 12 noon.

The No. 10 signal, the warning at the highest level, means that winding is waving at medium speeds of 118 km/h or more. The last No. 10 signal was during the Super -Typhoon Saola in 2023, with the storm led 86 injuries, landslides and thousands of trees to the fall.

According to the forecast, the top signal remains in force until early Sunday afternoon.

So far, Wiphha has led two reported injuries to two men and 72 reports on uprooted trees, while 221 people were looking for refuge in government accommodations.

The No. 9 signal was issued for the first time on Sunday at 7.20 a.m., hours after the first warning of the year. The unwanted weather remains with heavy Tqually showers during the day.

After the cancellation of 500 weekend flights, the airport authority said that 400 could be resumed in the afternoon at the earliest after the typhoon moved away from the city. It is expected that the airport will be “very busy” on Sunday evening to dispel up to 100,000 passengers.

Several MTR lines are kept a limited service, although those in open sections including Light Rail and Airport Express have been suspended. Most of the ferry and bus connections were also suspended.
